In episode 35, I sit down with Psychotherapist, Lilit Melik-Bakhshyan to discuss the conflict and war that has erupted in Artsakh today. She shares the history of the 1915 Armenian, Assyrian and Greek genocide. We discuss how constant exposure to human suffering can lead to depression and anxiety, Lilit shares the signs to look for and what you can do about it right now to cope when triggered. Lilit Melik-Bakhshyan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Lilit holds a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Lilit has extensive experience in facilitating group therapy, couples therapy, as well as individual therapy for clients from various cultural backgrounds and circumstances. Lilit has worked in a variety of settings such as clinics, hospitals, and schools. She currently provides addiction therapy to groups and individuals at Rehab Treatment Facilities. In addition, Lilit currently works at a private practice working closely with individual clients. Lilit believes in a holistic approach to mind and body: she incorporates a variety of mindfulness techniques and guided practices incorporating movement and various breathing techniques. Lilit believes in being centered in the present moment in self-awareness to be able to notice and to break free from any limiting patters we often find ourselves in, ultimately working towards self-development and self-awareness, finding peace within.
